Best defense The Riftbreaker

The Riftbreaker: My Best Defense Setup From Early Game to Endgame

This is my personal “wisdom build” for The Riftbreaker. It is focused on one main idea:

Use cheap, repairable defenses that only cost carbonium and ironium, then combine them with grass walls, the Root Gun, drones, and heavy artillery.

This lets you survive almost everything without entering the endless pain of mining rare resources just to repair expensive towers.

Best Early Defense: Electric Fence

One of the best early defensive tools is the Electric Fence.

You unlock it through the metal planet questline.

Why it is so good:

  • It deals energy damage.
  • It does not need electricity.
  • You can keep repairing it forever.
  • It is cheap and reliable.

For early defense, this is extremely strong. Just build it, repair it, and let enemies burn themselves down.

Best Defense From Early Game to Endgame

The best long-term defense I found is to build a square defense base in one corner of the map.

This lets you control a huge part of the map without needing to build insane fences everywhere.

Instead of trying to defend the whole map, you make one strong corner fortress and keep it alive.

Core Defense Layout

Start with:

1. Double Energy Fence

Use level 3 energy fences and build them in a double layer.

This gives enemies more time to die before they reach your towers.

2. Level 1 Towers Behind the Fence

This is very important:

Use level 1 versions of these towers:

  • Shotgun Tower — physical AOE damage
  • Flame Tower — fire damage
  • Acid Tower — acid damage
  • Artillery Tower — area damage
  • 1 or 2 level 3 Repair Towers inside the base
  • Level 3 Radar

Place the damage towers next to each other in a line behind the double energy fence.

Now you have almost every important damage type covered.

Why Level 1 Towers Are Secretly Amazing

The reason this works so well is simple:

Level 1 towers only consume carbonium and ironium.

That means if you build a few carbonium and ironium synthesizers, you can create an infinite supply of repair materials.

So your whole defense can be repaired forever.

If you try to defend with high-level towers everywhere, say goodbye to your rare resources. You will enter the endless loop of mining precious metals just to lose them all on repairs.

With level 1 towers, you stay calm, repair, and let the defense do its job.

The Perfect Defense Upgrade: Grass Walls

To make this defense almost perfect, unlock the Grass Wall from the tree plant questline.

Grass Walls are insane because:

  • You can run through them.
  • Enemies cannot move through them normally.
  • They let you create a fighting arena for yourself.
  • They let you pop out, shoot, and retreat safely.

Build around three layers of Grass Walls, with about two spaces between each layer.

This creates an arena where you can move freely while enemies struggle.

At this point, you are no longer just repairing towers. You are actively running around and killing thousands of mobs yourself.

Eventually, your character becomes stronger than all your towers combined.

That is freedom.

The Strongest Weapon for This Defense: Root Gun

The strongest weapon for this setup is the Root Gun.

You get it from the same campaign path where you unlock Grass Walls.

At red weapon quality, weapons can usually take three mods. The strongest mods are usually things like:

  • Ammo boost
  • Pierce
  • Rate of fire
  • Number of projectiles
  • Elemental damage

But the Root Gun is special.

It already has:

  • Built-in piercing
  • Infinite ammo
  • The ability to shoot through walls
  • The ability to shoot even through rocks

That means you do not need to waste a mod slot on piercing or ammo.

My favorite Root Gun mods:

  • Bonus projectile
  • Rate of fire
  • Cryo damage

You can even EQUIP TWO, totally cheating! (equip second one with energy element)

This setup destroys hordes.

It is so powerful that you almost do not need towers anymore. You can defend points with only Grass Walls and the Root Gun.

It also makes farming monster-summoning plans actually fun. Just build two Grass Walls, start the encounter, and enjoy the chaos.

Red Dropped Root Guns Are Pure Insanity

If you get a dropped red Root Gun, it can be even stronger.

Dropped weapons can have little stars, which are basically free extra bonuses.

I got one with:

  • Increased physical damage
  • Health from hits
  • Rate of fire

That was pure insanity.

With this kind of Root Gun, you are stronger than most of the game.

Final Touch: Heavy Artillery Towers

Once you already have the perfect defense, there is one final upgrade:

Heavy Artillery Towers.

These beasts have gigantic range. You can see their range when placing them.

At max level, they can deal around 4000 area damage and can even solo bosses.

Build them in packs of around six.

They are expensive and need proper energy infrastructure, but they are amazing for your main base and final defense.

How to Power Heavy Artillery Towers

There are two good ways to power them.

Option 1: Water and Nuclear Power

If you have nearby water, build a Nuclear Power Plant.

This creates plasma, which can be converted into super plasma for Heavy Artillery Towers.

Option 2: Ice Planet Coolant Pools

The ice planet is amazing because of coolant pools.

You can put 200 super coolant into a desynthesizer, and the Nuclear Power Plant only needs 50 coolant to run.

This makes it very easy to set up a repeatable energy system.

A simple setup:

  1. Arrive on a planet.
  2. Build a desynthesizer.
  3. Add a few wind turbines so it can run.
  4. Build a Nuclear Power Plant.
  5. Use the energy to power your defenses and Heavy Artillery Towers.
  6. Before leaving, turn off the super coolant desynthesizer.
  7. Teleport away.
  8. Repeat this on other planets.

With Grass Walls and the Root Gun, you do not really need Heavy Artillery everywhere.

But for your main planet and the final attack, they are absolutely worth it.

Extra Defense: Energy Tower

As another final touch, use the Energy Tower.

It costs only electricity, has AOE damage, and has gigantic range.

The only downside is that you can only build one in a certain area.

So build them far away from your main walls, wherever the game allows you to place them.

Infinite Carbonium and Ironium

Build your carbonium and ironium desynthesizers or synthesizers on an easy planet.

They keep working even when you are not on that planet.

This gives you a constant infinite supply of carbonium and ironium.

That is what makes the whole cheap-defense strategy work.

Best Armor: Chameleon Armor

The best armor, in my opinion, is Chameleon Armor.

The moment you activate it, bosses and mobs start ignoring you and changing direction.

This is godlike.

You can survive situations that should normally kill you.

Best Gear Combo With Chameleon Armor

Use:

  • 3x Attack Gear / Attack Drones
  • 1x Repair Drone

Attack drones are extremely strong. They keep firing even while you are cloaked, as long as the enemies were already fighting you before you activated cloak.

They can even finish a boss while you just watch.

The Repair Drone is perfect because nothing beats cloaking at 1 HP, hiding safely, and getting repaired while 200 mobs are running around you.

Best Skills

There is a skill that summons six more drones.

Use it.

For other skills, pick whatever you enjoy.

Personally, I loved tower skills. There are several kinds of skill towers, and you can also drop blue, purple, and red versions of them.

They can do a lot of damage and even defend an entire side by themselves.

One fun strategy:

  1. Build two Grass Walls.
  2. Pop out.
  3. Use skill towers.
  4. Summon a boss or big encounter.
  5. Watch the towers wipe everything.

They can even destroy nests from far away.

Important Research Unlocks You Might Miss

There are some research unlocks that are easy to miss.

Volcanic Planet Floating Stones

One research is locked behind scanning the floating stones on the volcanic planet.

These are the stones that disrupt your mechanics.

Scan them with the middle mouse button.

Nest Scanning Research

Another research is locked behind scanning nests.

These spawn on your headquarters planet about every 15 minutes as attack events.

Go to the nests and scan them.

Important warning:

Do not cover the whole map with scanners or Heavy Artillery Towers, or the nests may never properly spawn.

I ignored this for most of the game and learned the hard way. It unlocks :

Fusion Core: Huge Resource Savings

This can be insane.

It makes things cheaper to build by around 14%.

Take four of them and that becomes around 56% cheaper building cost.

For the last part of the game, this can save you hours of farming.

Combined with the cheap level 1 tower strategy, this makes the endgame much smoother.

Final Summary

The strongest strategy I found is:

  1. Unlock Electric Fence early.
  2. Build a corner square defense.
  3. Use double level 3 energy fences.
  4. Put level 1 mixed-damage towers behind them.
  5. Use level 3 Repair Towers and Radar.
  6. Produce infinite carbonium and ironium.
  7. Unlock Grass Walls.
  8. Use Grass Walls as your personal combat arena.
  9. Get the Root Gun and mod it with bonus projectile, rate of fire, and cryo damage.
  10. Use Chameleon Armor with attack drones and one repair drone.
  11. Add Heavy Artillery Towers for your main base and final attack.
  12. Use Fusion Cores to massively reduce building costs.

With this setup, you stop playing scared.

You repair cheaply, fight freely, shoot through walls, cloak when needed, and destroy giant hordes without wasting rare resources.

FINAL TIP :
USE planet scanner, there You can SWITCH to mining type map, which has A LOT of resources, much more than your campain planets, deposists with 100k of resources!

FINAL TIP 2:
At research station there are SMALL ARROWS which can change ORDER of researched items! They are quite hard to spot, some people do not even spot them at all : )
